Domaine Lafarge-Vial Chiroubles 2023 750ml

This is a single-cru Gamay from the adjoining parcel that Frédéric Lafarge and Chantal Vial farm in Chiroubles — the highest of the Beaujolais crus. Lafarge-Vial's home base is Fleurie, but this one small plot in Chiroubles consistently produces one of the most ethereal wines in their range, all under biodynamic Demeter certification.

The 2023 opens with a superb bouquet of red and black cherry, sweet cranberry and blueberry, layered with savoury notes of stony soil, coffee bean and a wisp of distant bonfire. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy with succulent ripe tannins and a long, gently sweet finish — a wine of real nuance that captures the elevation and perfume Chiroubles is known for.

Natural yeast fermentation in open concrete vats, partial whole-cluster, and traditional Burgundian élevage lend depth without weight. A benchmark Cru Beaujolais from one of the most highly regarded producers in the region.
