From Domaine Marcel Deiss, the family estate based in Bergheim in central Alsace. Run by Jean-Michel Deiss since 1981 and now in the hands of his son Mathieu, the domaine is a leading proponent of biodynamic viticulture and the historical practice of complantation, in which multiple grape varieties are co-planted, harvested and vinified together as a single field blend.
An Alsace blanc from co-planted parcels in the village of Riquewihr, drawn from the Engelsreben and Rosenbourg lieux-dits. A surface layer of silica sits on deep underlying marl, producing a wine that is at once precise, structured, dense and aristocratic, with a salivating central acidity. With age, it develops into something fleshier and more complete, expressing the complexity of fruit grown on cold, deep terroir.
Slow, gentle pressing and slow fermentation with native yeasts, then extended aging on lees in neutral vessels before bottling without oenological inputs.
