Jean-Luc Jamet worked for many years alongside his brother at the family's renowned Cote-Rotie estate before striking out under his own name in 2013. Today he farms a clutch of fine parcels in the Northern Rhone with his son Benoit. Couzou is his white Cotes du Rhone, drawn from a vineyard on deep soils at Bonnivieres in the Cote Brune, and built around Marsanne with Roussanne and a measure of Viognier.
The result is a textured, generous white with bright citrus over notes of pear, apricot and red apple skins. There is a creamy richness through the middle, balanced by a gently saline edge and a hint of bitter almond and honey on the close, giving the wine both depth and freshness.
Serve lightly chilled with roast chicken, grilled white fish, creamy chicken or vegetable dishes, or soft cheeses. Its weight and texture also suit richer fare such as pork with apple or mild, aromatic spicing.
