Cuvée Alexandrine is Alexandrine Roy's signature wine, first made in 2005 with the aim of crafting a village Gevrey-Chambertin as accomplished as a great premier cru. It is made entirely from millerandé Pinot Noir, the naturally tiny, unevenly set berries that give a much higher ratio of skin to juice, selected from six of her favourite parcels across the domaine.
The 2021 comes from a cool Burgundy vintage that produced fresh, delicate wines of real intensity at Domaine Marc Roy. Those small berries bring concentration and depth of dark berry fruit, while the season adds lift, finesse and a vivid line of acidity. The wood is discreet on the nose, and after a relatively short élevage the wine was bottled in late August 2022 to preserve its purity.
Domaine Marc Roy is a family estate of around four hectares, now led by Alexandrine as the fourth generation, with her father Marc still working in the vines. Yields are kept low, everything is picked by hand, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel with foot pigeage before ageing in French oak barrels. The wine can be enjoyed after a couple of years and has the structure to cellar well for many more.
