Domaine Louis Michel & Fils is one of the historic Chablis families, working a 25-hectare estate established in the mid-nineteenth century. Under Guillaume Michel the house pioneered the all-stainless-steel style of Chablis in the 1980s, and continues to vinify and age every wine without oak so that the Kimmeridgian limestone of the appellation comes through unfiltered.
Vaudésir is one of the seven climats of Chablis Grand Cru, sitting in a sheltered amphitheatre at the heart of the Grand Cru hillside. Louis Michel's bottling draws on two parcels on the southern, "l'envers" side of the cru, with vines averaging around sixty-five years of age.
The 2023 is bright and nascently complex, with apple, pear, lime blossom, citrus peel and chalky minerality lifting from a topnote of dried flowers. The palate is deep and full-bodied with stunning depth of fruit, explosive back-end energy and grip, leading to a long, finely balanced finish. A serious cellar candidate that will continue to build for decades.
