Domaine Leflaive's Puligny-Montrachet village wine is drawn from seven plots spread throughout the appellation, including Les Brelances, Les Grands Champs, Les Nosroyes, Les Reuchaux, La Rue aux Vaches, Les Tremblots and Les Houlières. Together they cover a little over four and a half hectares of Chardonnay, with vines planted from 1955 through to 2003, offering a true snapshot of the village's style.
The Leflaive family has called Puligny home since 1717, and the domaine is farmed biodynamically, certified by Biodyvin since 1998. Grapes are picked by hand, pressed long and gently, settled for 24 hours and fermented in oak casks, 18 percent new. The wine then spends 12 months in barrel followed by six months in tank.
2023 delivered a generous, balanced crop. A cool, wet spring replenished the soils, flowering was ideal and a late August heat spike brought the grapes swiftly to ripeness. Harvest started on 29 August, and for the first time the team finished picking at 2pm each day to protect the fruit from the heat.
Mineral and finely textured, with citrus, white flowers and orchard fruit, it offers a clear window into the qualities that define the domaine's Premiers and Grands Crus.
