Domaine Hubert Lignier's Charmes-Chambertin is one of Burgundy's most prized Grand Cru expressions, now crafted by Laurent Lignier from a tiny sub-one-hectare parcel on the Mazoyères-Haut climat, with vines planted in 1948. Hubert Lignier's home base is Morey-Saint-Denis, where the estate farms roughly 9 hectares under the principles of lutte raisonnée.
The 2022 balances generosity and precision. A mid-purple wine with a sensual, dark-red-fruited nose — black cherry, wild raspberry and rose petal layered with sandalwood, spice and earthy undertones. The palate is supple yet firmly structured, with finely grained tannins carrying dark fruit, cocoa and mineral nuances through a long, composed finish.
Charmes-Chambertin is widely regarded as the most "charming" and elegantly fragrant of the Gevrey Grands Crus, and Lignier's rendition is a textbook example — silky, ageworthy and deeply aromatic. A Grand Cru Burgundy for the serious cellar.
