From one of Burgundy's most storied estates, Domaine Henri Gouges Les Saint-Georges is a Premier Cru Pinot Noir drawn from the most renowned vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Founded in 1919, the domaine has been tended by four generations of the Gouges family, with cousins Gregory and Antoine now at the helm. Their organically farmed vines average around 50 years of age, with some parcels reaching 90 years old.
Hand-harvested and vinified using gentle infusion extraction, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 10 to 18 months with 10-30% new wood to complement rather than mask the terroir. The 2023 vintage presents a brilliant crimson robe and an earthy, complex bouquet laced with dark berry fruit, violet and subtle vanilla. On the palate, expect smoky, velvet-textured Pinot with layers of black cherry, raspberry and currant, framed by silky tannins and a poised acidity that carries through to an impressively long finish. At 14.5% ABV, this is a wine of concentration and elegance with excellent cellaring potential.
Les Saint-Georges has long been considered among the finest vineyards in the Cote de Nuits, and many believe it deserves Grand Cru status. In the hands of Domaine Henri Gouges, it consistently produces wines of depth, finesse and remarkable purity of fruit.
