Domaine Henri Germain et Fils, founded in 1973 and now in the care of Jean-Francois Germain, is one of the benchmark addresses of Meursault. While the estate is renowned for its whites, its reds are crafted with the same precision and gentle touch. The Bourgogne Cote d'Or Rouge is drawn from parcels close to home, including a plot near the Germain house in Meursault and another bordering Volnay.
Made from Pinot Noir, this is a red of charm and perfume. Aromas of sweet red berries and plums are framed by gentle spice and a lift of orange rind, while the palate is medium-bodied, lively and perfumed, with a generous core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. Slow, natural fermentations and measured oak keep the focus on freshness and finesse.
An easygoing yet refined companion for roast poultry, charcuterie, mushroom dishes and lighter red meats. Serve at cool room temperature.
