Domaine des Lambrays' Morey-Saint-Denis village wine comes from two parcels high on the slope above the Clos des Lambrays, in the lieux-dits En la Rue de Vergy and Les Larrets. Here the soils are shallow limestone rather than the deeper clays found lower down the hill, and the elevated position gives a cool microclimate; these plots are typically the last of the estate's vineyards to be picked.
The domaine is one of the oldest in Morey-Saint-Denis and is best known for its Grand Cru Clos des Lambrays. Owned by LVMH since 2014 and directed by Jacques Devauges since 2019, the estate has been farmed organically since 2019 and biodynamically since 2020, and its wines are now made in a gravity-fed winery completed in 2022.
Unlike the Clos des Lambrays, this Pinot Noir is fully destemmed rather than made with whole bunches, giving a more restrained, focused style. In 2023, an abundant vintage across the Côte de Nuits, the cool upper-slope parcels were harvested in mid-September.
It shows bright red cherry and raspberry fruit with floral lift, a fine, rounded texture and a fresh, mineral finish.
