Domaine Pernot Père et Fils is a family estate based in Brochon, at the northern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Founded in 1900, it is now run by Pascal Pernot, the fourth generation, who took over in 2018 and has quickly built a reputation for precise, characterful wines. He farms sustainably, is gradually introducing elements of biodynamics, and harvests relatively early to preserve freshness.
Aux Réas is a village-classified lieu-dit in Vosne-Romanée, one of the most celebrated communes in all of Burgundy, home to some of the world's most sought-after Grand Cru Pinot Noir. The vineyard sits on the southern side of the village, where it meets the boundary with Nuits-Saint-Georges.
In line with the domaine's approach to its reds, the fruit is largely destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts over at least two weeks, before maturation in barrels from the coopers Billon and Rousseau. The wine shows the perfume and silky finesse for which Vosne-Romanée is famous, with red and dark cherry fruit, floral and spice notes and fine-grained tannins, and will reward some time in the cellar.
