Benjamin Leroux, the Beaune-born former manager of Domaine du Comte Armand, has run his own domaine and négoce since 2007. He now controls around two hectares in Vosne-Romanée, where the vines are almost exclusively old selections of Pinot Fin.
His village Vosne-Romanée is assembled from as many as six lieux-dits. Recent blends have included Maizières Basses, a small portion of Les Violettes, an old-vine parcel in Genaivrières just beneath Domaine Leroy's vines, Les Jacquines, Croix Blanche and Au-Dessus de la Rivière, giving a picture of the village from north to south.
Fermentation is with ambient yeasts, followed by around 18 months of élevage in 300 to 450 litre barrels with roughly 15% new oak, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Expect the perfume, silky texture and spice that define Vosne-Romanée, framed by Leroux's light touch with oak.
