From Domaine des Creisses, a 19th-century family estate based in Valros, around 6 kilometres from Pézenas in the Languedoc, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Hérault hinterland. Run by Philippe Chesnelong since 1998 with input from his cousin, the celebrated Bordeaux vigneron Louis Mitjavile (Domaine de l'Aurage), the property comprises around 15 hectares of vines surrounded by garrigue, woodland and truffle oaks, farmed in a low-intervention, sustainable style.
The Les Creisses cuvée is a red blend dominated by Syrah (around 50%) and Grenache (around 40%), with a complement of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are grown on an 11-hectare plateau of poor gravel and clay-limestone over deep clay subsoil, which preserves freshness in the warm Mediterranean climate. Expect a dense, silky wine with intense aromas, ripe spice, liquorice and gentle vanilla nuances, leading into a generous, structured and balanced palate.
Hand-harvested at full ripeness, with vinification overseen by Philippe Chesnelong with input from Louis Mitjavile, then aged for around 10 months in oak before bottling.
