Les Caillerets is Volnay's finest premier cru, running along the mid-slope on thin, stony ground that gives the vineyard its name. Volnay is the most delicate of the Côte de Beaune red wine communes and Caillerets is its most refined site, producing Pinot Noir of perfume and precision rather than power.
The nose is lifted and floral, with red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal over a fine dusting of woodland spice. The palate is elegant and finely poised, with silky, tightly knit tannins, bright acidity and a long, cool, gently stony finish. Restraint is the point here.
Pousse d'Or is a Volnay estate of roughly 17 hectares, best known for its three walled monopoles in the commune and with further holdings stretching from Santenay to Morey-Saint-Denis. Patrick Landanger took the domaine on in 1997 and steadily expanded it through the 2000s, adding grand cru parcels on the hill of Corton and vineyards in the Côte de Nuits.
