From the village-level Volnay parcels acquired by Domaine Comte Armand in 1994, this Pinot Noir sits beautifully between the finesse of lighter Burgundy reds and the more structured wines of neighbouring Pommard. The estate is farmed entirely biodynamically under winemaker Paul Zinetti, whose stated aim is less tannic, more aromatically focused wines.
Destemmed fruit is fermented with ambient yeasts, given two to four weeks of maceration, then aged 18 to 24 months in oak demi-muids. The result is a medium-weighted wine of poached plum, dark cherry and warm spice with solid depth, persistence and the classic limestone-and-clay character of Volnay's terroir.
