Domaine Lignier-Michelot is based in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, where Virgile Lignier has transformed the family estate since taking full charge in 2000. His approach centres on lower yields, ploughed soils and whole-bunch fermentation, which he adjusts between 30% and 100% depending on the vintage and site, with most wines seeing only around a third new oak.
The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge is sourced mainly from the lieux-dits Au Pelson and Bons Bâtons, which lie close to Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. The fruit was vinified with a high proportion of whole bunches, giving the wine more energy and aromatic lift than many regional Burgundies.
It pours a deep purple and offers bright, zesty red and darker berry fruit layered with floral, earthy and spicy notes. Medium in weight, vibrant and energetic, it finishes long and refined. An excellent everyday Burgundy with real Côte de Nuits character, well suited to duck, mushrooms or a simple roast.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
