Domaine Denis Mortet is among the most admired estates of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy's Cote de Nuits, now led by Arnaud Mortet, who took the reins in 2006. Mes Cinq Terroirs is his village-level Gevrey-Chambertin, a red made entirely from Pinot Noir and blended from five parcels on the northern slope of the appellation known as the Coteau de Brochon.
The wine draws on old vines and is aged in barrel for around eighteen months, with a portion of new oak. Expect a finely defined bouquet of raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit lifted by gentle white-pepper spice, with a palate that is supple, savoury and quietly powerful. It is long regarded as one of the most complete village Gevreys to be found.
Decant before serving at a cool room temperature with roast lamb, game birds or earthy mushroom dishes. It drinks well now but will gain further nuance with time in the cellar.
