Domaine Rougeot has made wine in Meursault for five generations, with Marc Rougeot and his sons Pierre-Henri and Alexandre farming their vines organically and biodynamically. Reds are hand-harvested, sorted by hand and fermented with native yeasts as whole bunches, and a select few barrels are bottled with no added sulphur under the domaine's Nature label.
Les Santenots lies on the Meursault side of the boundary with Volnay, and the Rougeot holding sits just below the Clos des Santenots in Santenots Dessous. The wine shows a broad nose of darker fruit with a distinctly saline edge, and a dense, direct palate with real concentration through the middle and finish. It rewards a little time in the glass or in the cellar.
Serve with roast beef, game birds, braised lamb or a mushroom and truffle dish.
