Chartogne-Taillet is an 11-hectare family estate in the village of Merfy, just north-west of Reims in the Massif de Saint-Thierry. Alexandre Chartogne took over the domaine in 2006 at the age of 23 after a formative stint with Anselme Selosse, and has since become one of the most terroir-driven growers in all of Champagne, bottling a range of parcel-specific cuvées with the benefit of deep soil study and 17th-century family archives.
A single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs from the Chemin de Reims lieu-dit in Merfy, 100% Chardonnay grown on warm red sandy soils with south-facing exposure. Expect a taut, focused Champagne with chalk, crushed rocks, salt, white pepper and mint — chiselled and driven, with substantial palate presence.
Organically farmed and hand-harvested. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in a mixture of barrels (typically 350L and 600L) with regular top-ups, then bottled without filtration. Dosed as an Extra Brut (around 3–5 g/L).
