Mon Village is conceived as a tribute to Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the grand cru that more than any other defines what Chardonnay can do in Champagne. Rather than isolate a single parcel, it draws together the different soil expressions found across the village, old vines rooted in clay and limestone sitting over deep Campanian chalk, to give a complete reading of the commune.
The nose is precise and chalky, with lemon peel, green apple and white flowers deepening into toasted almond and a light brioche note. The palate is taut and beautifully defined, driven by a fine acid line with the saline, almost powdery texture that the village is famous for, and the extra brut dosage leaves the finish bone dry and very long.
Girard-Bonnet is based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, and is run by Paul Girard, born in 1995. The estate brings together his father Philippe Girard's vineyards in Le Mesnil with his mother Dominique Bonnet's holdings in Oger, around 12 hectares in total across grand cru Côte des Blancs villages and premier cru Vertus.
