Champagne Lanson Le Vintage Brut 2013 750ml
Founded in Reims in 1760, Lanson is one of Champagne's oldest houses and one of its most recognisable in style. The house famously sidesteps malolactic fermentation, retaining the grapes' natural malic acidity to build wines of freshness, drive and genuine ageing potential. Le Vintage is its vintage Brut, produced only in worthy years and aged for around nine years on lees before disgorgement.
The 2013 is a blend of roughly 53 percent Pinot Noir and 47 percent Chardonnay, born of a cool, classic, late-ripening season that lends the wine a chiselled, racy precision. Generous and intense on the nose, it offers candied fruit, dried apricot and almond woven with acacia honey and sweet spice. The palate follows with yellow stone fruits and dried apricot, brioche and a drizzle of honey, all carried by taut, mouth-watering acidity.
Best enjoyed well chilled as an aperitif, or with oysters, tempura and other crisp, savoury bites where its energy and cut come into their own.
