Champagne Les Freres Mignon Terroir de Cuis Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Extra Brut 2020 750ml

Cuis sits at the northern end of the Côte des Blancs, higher and cooler than the grand crus to the south and facing more to the north-east. That exposure produces the most acidic and tightly wound Chardonnay in the area, fruit that the large houses have long prized as the backbone of a blend and that rewards being bottled on its own by a grower willing to let it stand exposed.
The nose is bracing and precise, with lime, green apple and white blossom over a clean chalky note and a hint of toasted grain from a year in wood. The palate is lean, taut and utterly dry, with a piercing acid line, a fine saline texture and a long, mouth-watering finish.
Florent and Julien Mignon began bottling in 2015 after their family had spent generations selling its grapes on. The vineyards were largely planted by massale selection, everything ferments spontaneously in barrels of 255 to 600 litres, and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration; the premier crus from Cuis and Cumières see a year in wood.
