Since 2013 Dehours has released a Millésime each year, assembled from a selection of the finest wines in the cellar. The plots and the grape varieties that go into it change from one release to the next, because the point of the cuvée is to show what a single growing season did across the family's holdings rather than to repeat a house recipe. It is the most site-specific expression of the estate's blending, and it spends an extended period on lees before disgorgement.
The 2018 release is generous and ripe in the way that warm Marne Valley seasons tend to be, with poached stone fruit, baked apple and candied citrus peel on the nose, lifted by brioche and toasted nuts from time on lees. The palate is full and creamy, with a fine persistent mousse, a savoury undertow of almond and dried herb, and enough acidity to keep the richness in balance through a long, dry finish.
Dehours & Fils is a four generation family estate at Cerseuil in the commune of Mareuil-le-Port, on the left bank of the Marne Valley about 15 kilometres from Epernay. Jerome Dehours farms roughly 14.5 hectares across some 42 parcels in Mareuil-le-Port, Oeuilly and Troissy, on clay and sandy soils over limestone bedrock.
