À Mi-Chemin translates roughly as "halfway along", and the wine is a grand cru blanc de blancs drawn from the estate's Côte des Blancs holdings around Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. These are the villages where Chardonnay reaches its most mineral and long-lived expression in Champagne, planted on thin clay-limestone topsoils over an enormous bed of chalk.
Expect a nose of lemon zest, green pear and white blossom, gaining toasted hazelnut and a faint smoky note with time in the glass. The palate is linear and finely chiselled, with an insistent chalky texture, vivid citrus acidity and a dry, saline finish that goes on well past where you expect it to stop.
Paul Girard, born in 1995, runs this estate from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Girard-Bonnet unites the vineyards of his father Philippe Girard in Le Mesnil with those of his mother Dominique Bonnet in Oger, roughly 12 hectares concentrated in the grand cru heart of the Côte des Blancs.
