From the talented Benoit Moreau, this Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru comes from 0.34 hectares across two parcels in the La Maltroie climat — one clay-dominant, one limestone-dominant — with vines aged 45 and 70 years. Farmed biodynamically on calcareous soils over marl at 240 to 255 metres altitude with south-easterly exposure, this is a site that produces some of Chassagne's most compelling white wines.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in used oak barrels with minimal new wood, the Chardonnay is handled with a natural, ambient approach throughout. Rich and powerful with ripe pear, citrus, white peach and white flowers on the nose, the palate delivers firm acidity, a mineral and saline backbone, and a chalky, limestone-driven finish with hints of hazelnut.
