Benjamin Leroux was born in Beaune and spent fifteen vintages running Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard before launching his own house in 2007. Today he farms around eight hectares of his own vines, certified organic since 2016 and worked biodynamically, and buys only grapes (never juice or finished wine) from carefully chosen growers across the Côte d'Or. Meursault sits at the very heart of his white wine holdings.
His village Meursault is a blend of several parcels that together span the appellation's range of elevations. In recent vintages these have included Les Criots, Les Millerands, Sous la Velle, Bois de Blagny and Moulin Landin, with the higher white marls of Bois de Blagny lending a firm mineral spine. The oldest vines in the mix date back to 1944.
The grapes are pressed as whole clusters and fermented with native yeasts, then aged on lees for 12 to 18 months in foudres and 300 to 600 litre barrels, with only around 15% new oak. The aim is classic Meursault generosity and texture held in check by freshness and precision, rather than overt oak or richness.
