Amstel was founded in Amsterdam in 1870 and takes its name from the Amstel River that runs through the city. The brewery originally stored its beer in cellars cooled with ice cut from the river, and Amstel has since grown into one of the Netherlands' best-known lagers.
This premium Dutch lager is brewed with quality malted barley and hops and is given time to mature, which develops its smooth, rounded character. It pours a clear golden colour with a white head, offering a gentle malt aroma with light hop notes. The palate is crisp and balanced, with a soft malt sweetness and a clean, refreshing finish.
Serve ice cold. It is a versatile food beer that suits burgers, pizza, fried snacks and Dutch-style bar food such as bitterballen.
