Yarra Yering's flagship Chardonnay draws on one of Australia's most storied vineyard sites — the Yarra Valley home of founder Bailey Carrodus, whose original Chardonnay block was planted in 1969. The 2024 blends around 55% of that heritage fruit with 45% from 2012-planted Burgundian clonal material, fermented in 228L French oak barriques with 30% new oak.
On the nose it shows oyster shell and sea spray, lemon citrus and struck-match lift, giving way to a palate of white peach, custard apple, cedarwood and spice threaded with toast, cinnamon and smoked hay. Firm, long and deeply layered — a Chardonnay that feels both traditional and modern, with real Yarra energy beneath the complexity.
In extremely limited supply — a genuine benchmark of Australian Chardonnay, equally rewarding now or cellared for a decade.
