The Cuvée Saint Vincent is Vincent Girardin's regional Bourgogne Pinot Noir, sourced from vineyards across the Côte de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes de Beaune. The vines average around 50 years of age and grow on clay-limestone soils, giving the wine more depth than its modest appellation might suggest.
Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted in the vineyard and at the winery, and mostly destemmed before a short cold maceration and a temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine then spends around six months in 228 litre barrels with no new oak, followed by a few months in tank, and is bottled unfined with only a light filtration to keep the fruit fresh and pure.
Red fruits lead on an elegant nose, with blackcurrant, raspberry and strawberry. The palate is supple, with silky tannins and clean fruit purity, making it a very easy and enjoyable glass. Serve slightly cool on its own or with a charcuterie board, poultry, red meats or cheese.
Vincent Girardin began the house in 1980 with two hectares inherited from his parents, and today it works with vineyards across the villages of the Côte de Beaune from its base in Meursault, where winemaker Eric Germain oversees every cuvée.
