Irrewarra is the project of Geelong winemaker Nick Farr, running alongside his more widely known By Farr and Farr Rising labels. Fruit comes from a single vineyard near the small Western Victoria township of Irrewarra, planted by the Calvert family in 2001 and farmed by the Farrs for more than a decade. The site is predominantly pinot noir, on a cool, gently sloping aspect that suits the variety beautifully.
The 2024 Pinot Noir is bright, perfumed and structured. Red cherry, rose hip and a gentle musky spice rise from the glass, framed by subtle barrel char and the producer's signature whole-bunch lift. The palate is silky and energetic, fine-grained tannins running through cinnamon-tinged red fruit to a long, savoury close.
An expressive cool-climate pinot suited to roast duck, mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses.
