Valdicava is one of Montalcino's most respected estates, located on the celebrated Montosoli hill to the north of the town. Run by Vincenzo Abbruzzese, the estate has farmed without chemicals since the late 1980s and follows a traditional approach in the cellar, maturing its wines in large oak casks rather than small barriques.
The Rosso di Montalcino is made from the same carefully selected Sangiovese Grosso grapes used for the estate's Brunello. It spends several months in large traditional oak casks and a short period in bottle before release, giving a younger, fresher expression of the Valdicava style.
Expect intense, complex aromas of red fruit and spice with savoury, earthy undertones. The palate is lively and powerful for a Rosso, with ripe red fruit, juicy tannins and vibrant acidity, and with a little air it can reveal balsamic, wild herb and terracotta notes.
Enjoy with grilled steak, pici with meat ragù, roast pork or hard Tuscan cheeses.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
