Utzinger Wines is a small, organically minded estate in Tasmania's Tamar Valley, founded by Matthias and Lauren Utzinger and earning a strong reputation for finely crafted cool-climate wines. The Black Label Chardonnay is their premium, estate-grown expression, made to showcase the depth and energy of the site.
Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, it is wild-fermented in new oak with full malolactic fermentation and time on lees. The result is rich and layered, with white stone fruit, peach and nectarine, grilled nuts, nougat and a stylish struck-match, brioche complexity. The palate is full and creamy yet driven by bright, lemony acidity and a fine phenolic grip.
A serious, age-worthy Chardonnay, it pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy pasta, grilled fish and soft cheeses.
