The Wallis vineyard sits at around 142 metres on the Mornington Peninsula and is the site Ten Minutes by Tractor associates most closely with elegance. Its Pinot Noir tends toward perfume and fine structure rather than weight, which is exactly what the peninsula does best.
Ten Minutes by Tractor was formed in 1997 from three neighbouring vineyards, Judd, McCutcheon and Wallis, all a short tractor ride from one another, which is where the name comes from. The estate is based at Main Ridge and the single vineyard wines are drawn from the strongest blocks of each site to show what makes them different.
Expect a beautifully lifted Pinot Noir. Red cherry, raspberry and cranberry sit over rose petal, dried herbs and a savoury whole bunch spice, with silky tannins and a long, cool, mineral finish. Lovely with duck, mushrooms or grilled salmon, and it will develop nicely over five to eight years.
