Ten Minutes by Tractor is one of the Mornington Peninsula's leading estates, founded in 1997 from three home vineyards in Main Ridge — McCutcheon, Wallis and Judd — that were described as ten minutes by tractor apart. Acquired in 2003 by Martin and Karen Spedding, the estate produces regional, estate and single-vineyard wines from the coolest and highest part of the Peninsula.
The Wallis Chardonnay 2022 is a single-vineyard expression drawn from the highest-performing blocks on the home Wallis site. It shows aromas of flint, orange blossom and white flower leading to a silky, fine palate of marmalade and grapefruit, with complex oyster shell and cumquat notes and a lingering textural finish.
The fruit is hand-picked and hand-sorted, chilled overnight and whole-bunch pressed to stainless steel. After a 24-hour settle, the juice is racked to barrel taking the light lees, fermented using indigenous yeasts, with around 73% partial natural malolactic fermentation and occasional bâtonnage on selected barrels.
