Teeling brought distilling back to Dublin city in 2015, opening in Newmarket in the Liberties, the district that once housed dozens of working distilleries. The house reputation rests on unusual cask work, and this Master Blender's bottling is a clear example, finished in French red wine casks and bottled without chill filtration.
The wine influence shows immediately. Ripe red fruit, raspberry and caramel rise off the nose with vanilla, spiced wood and a soft floral note. The palate is silky, running through blackberry and dark cherry into cocoa, cinnamon and a faint liquorice edge.
It finishes long and sweet, noble oak and warm spice trailing off slowly. A generous Irish whiskey that rewards a little time in the glass.
