Champagne Robert Moncuit traces back to 1889, when Alex Moncuit bought his first parcels in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. His grandson Robert began bottling under the family name in 1928, working exclusively with Chardonnay from grand cru land, and Pierre Amillet, the fourth generation, now farms around ten hectares in Le Mesnil and Oger along organic lines.
The Réserve Perpétuelle is drawn entirely from the upper slopes of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and built on a perpetual reserve, a single living blend running since 2006 that is drawn from and replenished so that nothing is ever entirely lost. The result carries the accumulated complexity of everything that has passed through it while staying remarkably fresh. It is finished as an extra brut, with very little dosage to hide behind.
Expect a blanc de blancs of real depth. Lemon curd, ripe pear and quince meet brioche, toasted hazelnut and honeycomb, all sitting on the saline chalk minerality that Le Mesnil is famous for, with a fine mousse and a long, bone dry finish. Serve it with oysters, sashimi, roast chicken or a hard aged cheese.
