Roagna is one of Piedmont's most revered traditional estates, farming old vines with minimal intervention. Pajè is the family's most famous Barbaresco vineyard, and the Vecchie Viti bottling is a selection from its oldest vines, many over sixty years of age, set in the highest-limestone heart of the site.
Made from Nebbiolo with very long macerations and years of ageing in large casks, it is a profound, age-worthy wine. Expect layered aromas of wild rose, dark berry and crushed stone, with leather, menthol, dried herbs and incense. The palate is deep and powerful yet wonderfully detailed, with chalky tannins, vibrant energy and an intensely mineral finish.
This is a wine that demands patience and rewards long cellaring. When ready, serve with braised beef, game, truffle dishes and aged cheeses.
