Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the most exciting white wine names to emerge in Burgundy this century, founded in 2001 by Pierre-Yves Colin (son of Marc Colin) and Caroline Morey. From cellars in Chassagne-Montrachet, the estate handles small parcels across the Côte de Beaune, all in the same hands-on, mineral-focused style.
Les Perrières takes its name from the stony quarries that once sat above the vineyard, and is widely considered the finest of all Meursault Premier Crus. The high-limestone soils and excellent drainage produce wines with the cut and tension of Puligny but the depth and richness of classic Meursault. Pierre-Yves works the lower part of the climat from vines well over fifty years old.
The 2023 is taut, mineral and tightly wound in its youth, with citrus pith, white flowers and crushed stone aromatics over a long, saline core. Whole-cluster pressing at high pressure, native-yeast fermentation in 350-litre barrels and patient lees ageing without bâtonnage give the wine real density without losing its trademark cut.
