Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the most highly regarded white wine names in modern Burgundy, founded in 2001 by Pierre-Yves Colin (son of Marc Colin) and Caroline Morey. From the family cellars in Chassagne-Montrachet the estate works around 13 hectares across the Côte de Beaune in a single, exacting house style focused on stony minerality and clarity.
Corton-Charlemagne is the only Grand Cru for white wine on the Côte de Beaune outside Le Montrachet, sitting high on the limestone-and-marl slopes of the great Corton hill. Its cool exposure and stony soils give Chardonnay of unmistakable power, length and mineral drive. Legend has it that Emperor Charlemagne himself ordered white grapes planted on the hill so the wine would not stain his beard.
The 2023 is concentrated and finely structured, with white peach, citrus pith and crushed limestone running through a long, saline core. Whole-cluster pressing at high pressure, native-yeast fermentation in 350-litre barrels and patient lees ageing without bâtonnage, fining or filtration give the wine its trademark seamless integration. Built for long, slow cellaring.
