Clos de la Maltroie is a well-regarded Premier Cru in Chassagne-Montrachet, located in the southeastern part of the appellation near the Puligny-Montrachet border. Pierre Girardin produces both white and red from this site, and the Chardonnay is the more sought-after — a vineyard known for needing several years of cellaring and capable of 15 or more years of ageing.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts in Girardin's 456-litre barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a Premier Cru of serious depth and concentration. Pure, mineral-driven and structured, with the tension and complexity that mark Girardin as one of the most exciting young producers working in Burgundy today.
