Domaine Pernot Père & Fils has been farming vines around Brochon and Gevrey-Chambertin since 1900. Pascal Pernot, the fourth generation, took the reins in 2018 and works around seven hectares of mostly old vines, picking relatively early to preserve freshness and fermenting with natural yeasts.
En Champs is a village-level lieu-dit of Gevrey-Chambertin on a hillside exposed to cooling winds, which tends to ripen slowly and later than the domaine's other sites. A portion of whole bunches adds lift and a subtle earthy, stemmy note to the deep black fruit, while touches of bramble and spice build on the palate. It is a structured, fruit-forward Gevrey that will reward a few years in the cellar.
Pair with roast beef, venison, braised short ribs or a wild mushroom risotto.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
