Blagny La Pièce Sous le Bois is a Premier Cru red from the elevated hamlet of Blagny, perched between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet at the highest vineyard altitudes on the Côte de Beaune. When red grapes are grown here, the wines are classified as Blagny 1er Cru — a rare and distinctive appellation. Domaine Matrot is one of the most important holders in this small, often overlooked site.
Vinified with indigenous yeasts and the domaine's meticulous approach, this Pinot Noir reflects its cool, elevated terroir — lighter and more mineral than the Volnay and Pommard reds from lower down the slope, with red fruit, herbal notes and a fresh, chalky finish.
