Introducing a truly remarkable offering from Mortlach as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2022. This expression takes a unique departure from the traditional Mortlach whiskies, typically aged in sherry casks, by exploring the influence of different wines. It has undergone a finishing period in red-muscat and tawny-port casks, with a touch of whisky finished in virgin oak also added to the blend. The outcome is an exceptionally bold, rich, and spicy whisky, revealing layers of dark red fruit flavors that tantalize the palate.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Sweet spongecake, sweet and sour berries, stewed apples and green leaves. Spiced butter builds, along with sharper berry notes, spicy wine-poached pears ginger cake and a touch of freshly sawn oak.

Palate: Big, thick and weighty on the palate, with fresh and zingy orchard fruit balanced by creamy chocolate, caramel and stewed fruit. Buttered fruit loaf and stewed mandarins lead to liquorice root and a pinch of anise.

Finish: The buttered fruit loaf fades away to leave green leaves and sugar-dusted sultanas.
