A more complex and distinctly maritime expression of Octomore, 17.3 brings together five-year-old super-heavily peated Islay single malt matured across first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill Ribera del Duero, Sauternes, Eiswein and Syrah casks.
The result balances muscular peat with sweetness and nuance. Coastal smoke and salinity lead, while layers of fruit, caramel, coconut and vanilla reveal themselves underneath.
Nose: Coastal peat smoke, sea spray and medicinal notes lead, balanced by sweet malt, lemon peel, pear, vanilla and marzipan. Wildflowers and maritime freshness bring further lift and complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and textured, with sweet oak, salted caramel, toasted coconut and vanilla cream. Earthy peat, citrus oils and maritime salinity bring smoke, sweetness and spice into balance.
Finish: Long and elegant, with fading malt sweetness, soft florals and vanilla alongside earthy smoke, maritime salt and lingering warming peat.
