Markus Molitor is a celebrated Mosel producer based at Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Wehlen, Germany. Markus took over the eighth-generation family estate in 1984 at the age of 20, and over four decades has built a reputation for ageworthy Rieslings of precision, depth and balance. The estate now farms around 120 hectares across many of the most storied steep-slope sites of the Mosel and Saar.
Graacher Himmelreich is a VDP Grosse Lage on the Middle Mosel, with deep blue Devonian slate soils and a sheltered topography ideal for Riesling. As an Auslese, this is a richer, sweeter style made from selectively harvested ripe bunches: yellow stone fruit, honeyed apricot, mirabelle, lime zest and wet-slate minerality, balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, finely poised finish.
Grapes are hand-harvested with selective sorting, followed by gentle pressing, slow spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and extended ageing on the fine lees. The wines are typically raised in a mix of stainless steel and large old wooden casks (Fuder) according to their style.
