Luigi Baudana is a small estate at the northern end of Serralunga d'Alba, farmed for generations by the Baudana family and taken over by the Vaira family of G.D. Vajra in 2009, who kept both the Baudana name and Luigi's guidance.
Cerretta is one of the most celebrated crus of Serralunga, known for producing powerful and notably long lived wines from the commune's calcareous marls. The estate's parcel is vinified traditionally and matured in large oak casks for an extended period before release.
This is the more muscular of the estate's single vineyard Barolos: dark cherry, plum and dried rose with tar, liquorice, tobacco and a firm mineral spine. The tannins are substantial and finely grained, and the wine needs time, unfolding over two decades in a good vintage.
