Koerner Lenswood Chardonnay 2023 750ml
Lenswood is one of the coolest, highest corners of the Adelaide Hills, and it is where Damon and Maddy Koerner live, make their wine and farm the Hazeldene home block. Chardonnay was among the first things planted there, and the first home block Chardonnay was made in 2022, making this a young but very promising wine in their range.
Koerner Wine was established in 2014 with a philosophy of minimal intervention and a preference for wines that are textural, fresh and genuinely drinkable rather than built for show. The Chardonnay is treated accordingly, worked gently and matured without heavy oak influence so the site can come through.
Expect a taut, cool climate style. Grapefruit, white peach and lemon curd are threaded with white flowers, a light struck match reduction and a fine, chalky mineral line, and the finish is long and dry. It suits shellfish, roast poultry or a simple grilled fish, and has the structure to develop over several years.
