Basket Range Wine is one of the original names of the Adelaide Hills, farming a small organic vineyard first planted in 1980 and now tended by winemaker Sholto Broderick. The Estate Chardonnay is a tiny-production wine from a single quarter-hectare block on a gentle north-east facing slope behind the winery.
The fruit is whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barriques with time on lees, building texture while keeping the wine fresh and precise. Look for white nectarine, citrus and a nutty, cashew-like complexity, with a subtle struck-match note and a tightly wound, mineral palate.
A pure, cool-climate expression of Chardonnay, it pairs beautifully with roast chicken, creamy pasta, grilled fish and soft cheeses.
