Hickson is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from Kerri Greens, made by Lucas and Alyce Blanck on the Mornington Peninsula. It comes from a heritage site of old P58 clone Chardonnay planted in 1982, one of the early plantings that helped establish the region's reputation for the variety.
The vineyard is farmed organically, without herbicides or systemic sprays, and the fruit is whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in barrel, then aged on lees with a small portion of new oak. The wine opens with citrus and a waxy note, unfolding into peach, apricot and straw, with a savoury, almost nutty edge.
The palate is close to full-bodied yet silky, with a saline thread, bright fruit and a mineral backbone that gives real drive and length. This is a serious, site-driven Chardonnay with genuine cellaring potential.
