Mount Mary is a family-owned, single-vineyard estate in the heart of Victoria's Yarra Valley, established in 1971 by Doctor John and Marli Middleton. It was one of the first vineyards planted in the modern revival of the region. Today the estate is run by the Middleton family, with grandson Sam Middleton as winemaker since 2011, producing wines under three labels: Mount Mary Vineyard, Marli Russell and Réflexion. All wines are estate-grown and made on site.
The Réflexion label was introduced after the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and is now used for limited releases primarily from the estate's younger Chardonnay plantings. The wine is finely drawn and elegant, with citrus, white peach, almond, white flowers and a saline mineral edge over a textural, persistent palate.
The estate prioritises soil health and biodiversity, with composting and minimal-intervention viticulture, and more than half the property dedicated to native conservation and revegetation. All winemaking takes place on site, with hand-harvesting and bottling under one roof.
